Delayed publishing due to lack of Internet up the mountain!! Wrote this at about 1.30...
Ahhh... Finally, after 4 non stop days, I have a little bit of chill out time, and some time to kill. I'm just going to ignore the fact that I'm in pretty much just a lay by in an empty town, with just a bench and a tree. But I have my book, some music, my camera and some stunning views.
I've arrived at Fanlo about two hours earlier than the boys (they're due any moment now). It's really difficult to gauge when to arrive, and to know how much time I have spare as I have only my own estimates of how long it will take them to get from place to place, and I always have to edge on the side of optimism to ensure I'm definitely there before them.
The scenery was again amazing. I decided to take a different route to the boys today, rather than traversing their exact route. It's very hilly and I don't want to strain the car unnecessarily. So while the boys were up and down mountains, I stuck to the beautifully maintained Spanish Main road which consisted of a series of tunnels and aqueducts and very few hills for me to actually go up. They asked me to meet them at the top of the second of three peaks in a small town called Fanlo. I was concerned that internet signal might not be so great, so I waited in the small village (??) at the foot of the climb for as long as I could. But it turns out Spain has no shade at all. I struggled again to find a lay by or anywhere to park that would out of the direct sunlight. I couldn't find any, so after a quick check in with the boys I carried on the Fanlo, in the hope that it would be a lot cooler up there.
The car read 23 when I got to the top, in comparison to 28 at the bottom, so there is a little respite. It's a big greener and I've managed to find a tree and a bench!
Thanks again to everyone who is following our journey, and of course to those of you who have sponsored. After lunch the boys have another twenty ish miles until we get to Ainsa. I will go on ahead and find a campsite. Hopefully today all the riding will be done by about 5, so we can actually all have a bit of an evening and go out for dinner.
Here's some photos from this morning and some I took on my way:
Reluctant team selfie
View from the campsite in Jaca. You can see actual snow on the hills in the distance.
A quite big hill. There's plenty of those.
Parked up near the base of the hill where I will meet the boys. Trying to ready myself for the climb in the car!!
Tourist information booth at Fanlo. There's nothing here, just nice walk and cycle routes (if you like going up hills!)
View of Fanlo town from the road.
The boys should be here any minute...
